The Los Angeles Rams had a unique strategy for the 2020 NFL Draft but it seems to be paying off as NFL experts are loving their draft class. The NFL Draft is the home of potential superstars and busts as NFL general managers are looking to claim glory with these newfound rookies. For the most part, players selected in rounds, 1-3 will have a solid career in the league but it’s important to dive into tape and interview into these players to see a hopeful glimpse of a bright future. CBS Sports recently ranked all 32 teams best pick of the 2020 NFL Draft especially looking in rounds 1-3, as the best Rams draft pick comes with no surprise.
Round 3, No. 104 overall – Utah safety Terrell Burgess
Burgess is a top 100 player. The Rams valued him more than some of the safeties taken before him. He primarily played in the box but has proven to be an instinctive playmaker in the Utah secondary. Los Angeles will be able to move him all over the field to best utilize his skill set.
Without a doubt, Burgess was on the radar for a lot of teams and the Los Angeles Rams got him at the perfect spot. Burgess comes into his rookie year following 81 tackles, 7.5 for loss, one interception, five pass breakups in 14 starts in 2019 with the Utes. The safety also impressed Los Angeles with running a 4.46 40-yard dash time even with a 5-foot-11 202-pound frame. Burgess is one of those players who will give it their all and it shows as he went on to state that in an interview before the draft.
“They’re gonna get a guy that’s gonna come in and give 110 percent effort every single day, I’m gonna come in and learn the system from the older guys. I’m excited to meet my new teammates and get to work. I’m gonna do everything I can to help the team win ball games.”
This is the exact playmaker the Rams defense needed and will shine in his rookie year. If you have yet to see Burgess play, take a look at some of his college highlights below. Do you think Burgess was the best Rams draft pick in 2020?
