Aaron Donald Who? Meet the 6th round draft pick taking his role

Updated: September 6, 2017

The Los Angeles Rams will most likely be without Aaron Donald this week. Even though Sean McVay has yet to announce the officially ruling on Donald playing Sunday, there is a slim chance he even see’s the field. Rams fans, it’s time to move on from Aaron Donald from the time being and get hyped for his replacement.

Meet 6th round draft pick Tanzel Smart who has been impressive all preseason. Smart practically is another Donald according to Chris Burke: “A three-tech without ideal size for the position. Where have we heard that one before? Oh right, Aaron Donald. Smart (6′ 1″, 296) has not yet earned—nor does he need to be saddled by—Donald comps, but there are some similarities. Smart wins with quickness, both in his feet and hands.”

Los Angeles Memorial ColiseumWhat I love about Smart in this situation is he’s not dealing with all of the Aaron Donald news and wants to win Sunday. Here’s what he had to say to the Los Angeles Times about Donald not showing up to practice.

“We would love him here because I know he’s a good player,” Smart said Monday. “But it really don’t matter to me — we still have to play with him or without him. I’ve still got to do the right thing that I’m supposed to do.”

Smart started the final two preseason games for the Rams and ended the preseason with four tackles and a pass defensed in four appearances. He started 36 games at Tulane before moving on to the NFL. Who’s ready to cheer on Smart this Sunday?
