Sean McVay and Les Snead Give Update On Aaron Donald Possibly Playing Week 1

Updated: September 1, 2017
The Los Angeles Rams have exercised the fifth-year option on third-year All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

Aaron Donald deserves to be the highest paid defensive player in the NFL without a doubt. So what’s taking so long Donald? The Los Angeles Rams are most likely offering a deal that seems reasonable and approachable for both sides, but Donald refuses to get back on the field. With the final preseason game ending with the Rams finishing with a 2-2 record, it’s now time to act like a man and get back on the field with a week to prepare for the Colts.

If Donald is really asking everything from top to bottom on this contract, then there is an easier solution for him. Report back to the team, don’t sign a long-term deal and let the offseason do the talking and see which teams gets the best defensive player in the NFL.

It will be very interesting the next couple of days to see where the Rams and Donald stand, but for right now they are slowly inching closer. After the final preseason game, Sean McVay and Les Snead talked about the opportunity of Donald possibly joining the team by Week 1. Via Alden Gonzales:

“Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters in Green Bay after the game that he is “definitely optimistic” Aaron Donald will be available to him by Week 1. He also said he is “optimistic about the direction that we’re going, and the level of urgency that both sides have.”

“That’s as strong as McVay has been about Donald since basically the start of training camp. Rams GM Les Snead has said Donald would probably have to be at that first practice this coming week to be available for Week 1.”

Aaron Donald you have until Monday to legitimately have a chance to play with your teammates. Time to step up and join the Los Angeles Rams once again.
